Services for Joe Lee Smith, 50, of Lubbock will be at 1 p.m. today at the A.W. Wilson Chapel at Jamison's Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating.

Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Jamison's Funeral Home of Lubbock.

He died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001.

He was born Dec. 9, 1951, in Fort Worth. He married Diana Griffey on May 22, 1986, in Glendale, Ariz. He worked for Benny Doggett as a truck driver before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with two stars. He was specially trained and qualified for the M-60 device. He retired from the military in September 1978 with honorable conditions.

Survivors include his wife, Diana K. Smith of Lubbock; two daughters, Shawnna Barber of Lubbock, Stephanie Smith of Corsicana; his father, Verbon Smith of Leedy, Okla.; one sister, Cindy Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
