Died Friday; Rites Pending
J.W. Smith, 74 died at his home at 907 Raleigh street at 10:45 Friday night. He had been ill twelve days.
Funeral arrangements are pending word from members of the family. A son, Sergeant Melvin Smith, is believed on his way home from Germany but members of the family did not know when he might arrive.
James Wilson Smith was born February 24, 1870, in White county, Arkansas. He moved to the Liberty Community north of Plainview in 1936 from Silverton where he had lived 21 years, and three years ago moved to Plainview. He was a member of the St. John?s Methodist
Church here. Smith engaged in Farming until his retirement three years ago.
Survivors include his wife and the following children: Mrs. A.W. Kendrick, Texas City; Mrs. T.M. Marshall, Silverton; Albert Smith, Whitfield community; Marvin Smith, Pecos; Sgt. Melvin Smith; Mary Katholeen, Elmer and Josephene Smith, all of Plainview. A nephew,
W.W Miller of Lockney, and 11 Grandchildren also survive.
The M.W Lemons Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
