Obituary

Services for Katharyn Davis Foraker Smith, 91, of Hale Center will be held 3 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Hale Center Church of Christ with Silas Short officiating. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center. Katharyn was a member of Hale Center Church of Christ.
Mrs. Smith died on June 22, 2010 at Texas Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. She was born Jan. 23, 1919 in Megargel, Texas. She graduated from Lockney High School and married Wilbur Foraker on Oct. 6, 1945 in Clovis, N.M. After his death on Feb. 12, 1988, she married Jack Smith on Sep. 8, 1990 in Hale Center, Texas.
She moved to Hale Center in 1947 from Plainview, Texas. She worked as a buyer for Meinecke's and as a saleslady for Moon's Drug Store, and later retired from J.C. Penney's in Plainview, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Smith of Hale Center; three children, Jeannie Karen Jones of Lubbock, Lonnie Foraker of Shallowater and Ronnie Foraker of Haslet, Texas; three stepchildren, Jackie Jones of Corpus Christi, Julia Chambliss and Wilford Smith, both of Plainview; three brothers, Thurman Davis of Thonotosassa, Fla., Loy Davis of Clarendon, Texas and Jerry Davis of Lockney, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Davis and Kenton Davis, and a stepdaughter, Myra Mickey.
