Obituary

HALE CENTER - Funeral services for George Edward Smith, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Smith died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Country Club Manor in Amarillo. He was born April 11, 1911 in Hale Center and married Georgia Parker on March 9, 1932 in Muleshoe. They lived in Hale Center and farmed until 1974 when they moved to Canyon, then to Amarillo four years ago. While living in Hale Center, he served on the boards of the Plainview Co-op Compress, Hi-Plains Hospital, Hale Center Co-op Gin and also was on the Greens Springs Water Supply Corp. board in Denton County. He was a past president of the Hale Center Lions
Club. Surviving are his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Donna Smith of Amarillo and Edward B. and Beth Smith of Copperas Cove; a brother, William Smith of Olton; a sister, Vernice Wheeler of Odessa; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Dwayne P. Smith and a daughter, Wynejean Smith, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to Boys Ranc, 600 West 11th, Amarillo, TX 79101 or Baptist/St. Anthony Hospice, Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
