Obituary

Clayton Smith, 71, of Plainview passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at his residence. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Lemons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Colonial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Malcom officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Clayton was born July 22, 1936, in Turkey, Texas, to Seaporter Smith and Minnie George Smith. He married Peggy Ann Starkey on Oct. 12, 1967, in Turkey. Clayton retired from Cargill Meat Solutions after 20-plus years of service. He was a longtime member of Colonial Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Smith; one brother, Bobby Smith; and his parents. Clayton is survived by two sons, James Smith and wife Amy of Dodge City, Kan., and Danny Stevens and wife Debbie of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, Melissa Anderson and husband Derek of Columbia, Mo., Michelle Stevens of Wichita, Kan., Molly Stevens of Wichita, Kan., and Ky Smith of Dodge City, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Caleb Perry of Wichita, Kan., and Elliot Anderson of Columbia, Mo.; sister, Edna Boggs of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews.
