Obituary

Lavern Mason Sims, 75, of Plainview died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at her residence in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Sims was born July 15, 1933, in Eldorado, Texas, to Herbert and Cumi Garrett. She grew up around Vernon, Texas, and attended school at Harrold, Texas, from first through ninth grades. She moved to Plainview in 1948 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1951. She married Charles Mason in 1951. She was a member of Edmonson Home Demonstration Club for several years. She retired as secretary from Chilton Heating and Air Conditioning in 1996. She married Paul Sims on Aug. 23, 1996. He passed away March 2, 2003. She was a homemaker and member of College Heights Baptist Church and The Pastor's Class. Lavern was a very loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sims; her parents; a sister, Delores Foster; a brother, Joe Dean Battle; and a half-brother, David Lewis. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lynn Mason of Plainview and Ricky and Laura Mason of Plainview; one granddaughter, Kendra Mason of Levelland; one great-grandson, Marcus Escamillia of Levelland; two stepgranddaughters, Crystal Rushin of Plainview and Amber Lambert of Lockney; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, T.J. Foster of Lake Jackson, Texas; and two nieces and one nephew of the Houston area. Charitable donations may be made to Area Community Hospice, P.O.
