Obituary
Mary E. True Sherman, 88, of Plainview passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, in First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. William R. Stephens officiating and the Rev. Kyle Streun assisting. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation for family and friends will be from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the funeral home. Mrs. Sherman was born March 24, 1920, in Goree, Texas, to S.M. Sr. and Nettie Belle True. She married Jimmie Sherman July 9, 1939, in Plainview. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2000. Mrs. Sherman was a member of First United Methodist Church, Women's Golf Association, Delta Delphin Study Club, active in PTA, Iva Wheeler Circle, Girl's Town USA, Chamber Orchestra Guild, Charter member and longtime board member of the Symphony Guild, member of the Harmony Sunday School Class, Plainview Women's Club, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and a lifetime member of WSCS. Survivors include one son, Joe Sherman and wife, Nova, of Plainview; two granddaughters, Jennifer Streun and husband, Kyle, of Hereford and Janna Bennett of Plainview; one sister, Ona Belle Stephens and husband, Bill, of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, S.M. True Jr. of Plainview and Riley D. True and wife, Margaret, of Plainview; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Streun, KayLea Streun and Jackson Streun, all of Hereford, and Andrew Bennett, Riley Bennett and Tanner Bennett, all of Plainview; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, S.M. True Sr. and Nettie Belle True; three sisters, Nell Thornton, Lorine Mote and Dorothy Setliff; and one brother, Carl True.
