Shearer, Elbert (E.F.), Mrs. (Ella Fay Carpenter)

Funeral service for Fay Shearer, 92, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Horace Abbott, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shearer died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, in Hale County Nursing Center in Hale Center.

She was born Ella Fay Carpenter on June 20, 1912, in Roby. She attended school in Littlefield and moved to Plainview in 1945.

She was a homemaker and worked a short time at J.C. Penny's and with her husband at his service station. She had been a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary, RSVP, Women Alone, UMW, and her favorite hobby was watching Dallas Cowboys games. She was a Methodist.

On July 8, 1948, she married Elbert "E.F." Shearer in Roswell, N.M. He died April 5, 1977.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Tom Baker of Plainview; two sons and a daugher-in-law, Jack and Mozelle Howton of Houston and Bill Howten of Madrid, Spain; a brother, Calvin "Cal" Carpenter of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four sisters, Lillian James of Plainview, Pat Howington of Amarillo, Oma Carpenter of Tyler and Opal Purves of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her former husband, B.H. Howton; a grandson, Greg Howton; a great-granddaughter, Jenny Rawlings; three sisters, Christine Kimble, Jewel Watkins and Mary Lee Tresenider; and three brothers, Claude, Rayburn and Alf Carpenter, also are deceased.

The family suggests memorials to Grace United Methodist Church, 3333 Garland, Plainview, TX 79072.
