Obituary

Funeral services for Amos William Shadix, 84, of Salina will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at Seth Ward Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel, Pryor, Okla., and Wood-Dunning Funeral Home, Plainview. Mr. Shadix was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Eric, Texas, to Walter and Ruth Graham Shadix. He departed this life on April 6, 2010, in Pryor, Okla., at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 9 days. Amos lived in Salina since 2000, moving there from Plain?view. He was a truck driver for a freight company. He married Murtice Jo Peterson on April 21, 1997, in Clovis, N.M. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview. Amos liked to tinker and was always fixing things. He lived by Lake Hudson, which gave him the opportunity to fish a lot. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes. His family was the most important part of his life, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Amos is survived by his wife, Jo, of the home; daughter Kathy Griffin and her husband, Billy, of Plainview; daughter Linda Rendon and her husband, Henry, of Greenville, Texas; son Derald Shadix and his wife, Cindy, of Plainview; stepson Bobby Gaskin and his wife, Diane, of Salina; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth; a brother, Bobby; and grandson, Justin Malone.
