Cotton Center-- Funeral services for Sylvia Shackelford, 75, were at 2 p.m. today in Hale Center First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shackelford died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in Plainview.

She was born May 17, 1928, in Benjamin. She had lived in the Cotton Center community for 57 years and was very active in the Cotton Center First United Methodist Church until it closed. She then joined Hale Center First United Methodist Church, serving as director for the Methodist Youth Fellowship.

She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Hale Center Senior Citizens.

On Sept. 23, 1946, she married Howard Shackelford in Cotton Center.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Larry Harper of Walsh, Colo., Linda Patterson of Hale Center and Carolyn Shackelford of Cotton Center; a brother, George Cornett of Hale Center; four sisters, Marie Lewis, Jeanette Steen and Nell Rogers, all of Hale Center, and Jean Curry of Tahoka; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A son-in-law, Allan Mahagan, and a grandson, Keith Mahagan, both died in 1983.

The family suggests memorials to the Hale Center Senior Citizens.
