Obituary
George Robert "G.R" Sell, 95, of Petersburg passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, in Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg with his grandsons, Kenton Holloway and Tom Sell, officiating, and Owen Carr, pastor, assisting. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time at Main Street Church of Christ. Mr. Sell was born Oct. 23, 1912, to Robert Butler Sell and Maud Elliott Sell in Petersburg where he attended schools. He married Nancy Pauline Shelly in 1933. He was continuously involved in farming near the Becton and Petersburg communities for their 73 years of marriage. He also operated a ranch in Dickens County for many years. He was a member of Main Street Church of Christ where he was very active and served in many different capacities. He also was a member of the Petersburg Riding Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Pauline Sell, on Dec. 19, 2006. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Kathalyn Holloway and husband, Bob, of Bowie, Texas; three sons, James Sell and his wife, Iwana, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, George Sell and his wife, Judy, of Lubbock, and Wayne Sell and his wife, Jane, of Dewey, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ray M. Sell of Petersburg. Memorials may be made to the Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O. 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408 or a favorite charity.
