Obituary

Billy Earl Sanders, 83, of Plainview, died Jan. 4, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Lemons Funeral Home, Lemons Memorial Chapel in Plain?view. Arrangements by Lemons Funeral Home. Billy was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Plainview to Jake and Ila Sanders. After attending Plainview High School, he remained in the area and became a life-long resident. He always enjoyed his work, especially the time he spent driving a hearse for Lemons Funeral Home in the 1950s. He later worked as a truck driver, finally retiring in 2005. He had many varied interests including collecting miniature trucks and cars. His family also got a kick out of his penchant for "collecting" ballpoint pens. Billy also had a little "horse trader" in him and loved trading cars and trucks. Friends were a very important part of his life and he always enjoyed having coffee and visiting with them. The true joy of his life was spending time with his kids and grandkids. He has left many colorful memories with all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his brother, Ray Sanders. Survivors include his special friend of 20 years, Zelma Sisemore of Plain?view; two sons, Danny Sanders and wife Lois of Lubbock and Kelly Sanders of Amarillo; five daughters, Donna Mull and husband Ronny of LaMarque, Kari Sanders of Lubbock, Sara Sanders of Hale Center, Nita Rattan and husband Dax of Amarillo, and Rita Williams and husband Brad of Amarillo; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Sanders of Georgetown and Rick Sanders and wife Dorothy of Mansfield; two sisters, Betty Stone and husband Bill of Missouri, and Linda Hall and husband Alton of Lubbock. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. today, Jan. 6, 2013.
