Obituary
Albert Sammann, 94, of Plainview, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gerald Boerger, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Sammann was born Nov. 25, 1911, at home in the Prairieview Community to H. Henry and Louise H. Quebe Sammann. His parents were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church in the Providence community. Albert was the first person baptized at Trinity Lutheran on Dec. 24, 1911. He attended the Prairieview school and then went to Texas Lutheran College in Seguin with his sister, Freda. Albert served on the church council at Trinity Lutheran until he moved his membership to Christ Lutheran Church in Tulia. He later moved his membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview. Albert farmed in the Prairieview community all his life and was still driving his tractor when he was 80 years old. He also was a cattleman who operated a small farm feedlot and had a commercial cow herd. Albert invented a mechanical corn detasseler and also was the first person to use an automobile engine to power an irrigation pump. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses and his cattle. Albert married Gertrude Alma Schreiber on Aug. 18, 1934, at the Lutheran parsonage in Wilson, Texas. They were married for 71 1/2 years. Albert was a devout Christian who led his family with a quiet, humble spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife; four children, Virginia Ammons of Plainview, Barbara Valentino and husband Dick of San Antonio, Elbert Sammann and wife Thelma of Amarillo and Jess Sammann and wife Priscilla of Plainview; seven grandchildren, Beverly and Bert Wall, Corinna Allen-Robison, Rosanne and Dale Williams, Leslie Sammann, Kurt Sammann, Jennifer Valentino and Staci and Travis Barrett; 13 great-grandchildren, Kory Musquiz, Amber Williams, Nikki Phillips, Brant Wall, Cole Williams, Brock Wall, Jamie Allen, Logan Robison, Mary Elizabeth Sammann, Rachel Sammann and Jonathan Sammann; one great-great-grandchild, Hallie Phillips; two sisters, Laura Brandes of Palm Desert, Calif., and Clara Stuckey of Plainview; and one brother, Ernest Sammann of Dimmitt. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, R.L. "Bob" Ammons; and a daughter-in-law, Sharron Sammann. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
