Funeral services for E.S. "Russ" Russell, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with David Milstead, a deacon at First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Russell died at 3:49 p.m. Friday, June 14, 1996, in the emergency room of Methodist Hospital Plainview.
He was born July 1, 1922 in Granqueria, N.M. and married Helen Batteas on July 2, 1942 in Rotan. He grew up in Roystone. He joined the Army and served from 1940-45. He then farmed in Roby.
He moved to Lubbock in 1948 and worked for ASA Driller, then moved back to Roby in 1948 and worked in the oil field. He worked for Don Cook Drilling from 1952-60 when he joined J.O. Tenery in Plainview. He started his own company, E.S. Russell Drilling, in 1963.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Randy Abbott of Plainview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Monty and Debra Russell of Amarillo and Greg and Kari Russell of Plainview; three brothers, Marvin and Tommy, both of Green Forest, Ark., and Ferrell of San Antonio; a sister, Sylvia Parmer of Green Forest, Ark.; seven grandsons, two step-grandsons and one granddaughter.
A daughter, Annetia Sue Russell, and a brother, Merl Russell, are deceased.
