Obituary
Funeral services for Thelma Roper, 91, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Eddy Curry, minister of education at First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Roper died at 10:03 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. She was born April 13, 1911, in Bullard and grew up in Kirkland, graduating from high school there before receiving her degree at Wayland Baptist College. She was a school teacher for a brief time and moved to Plainview in 1931. She married Ralph Roper on Nov. 30, 1931, in Oklahoma. He died Feb 8, 1986.
She taught Sunday school at Valley View Church in the Runningwater community for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Millennium Singers of the Hale County Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Byrd of Plainview; three sons, Ralph Roper of Granbury, Billy R. Roper of Bowie and Randall Roper of Olton; a sister, Jessie Reed of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association, 608 Eighth St., Olton, TX 79064 or to Runningwater Draw Care Center, 800 W. 13th, Olton, TX 79064.
