Obituary

Funeral services for Thomas Earl "Tommie" Rogers, 86, longtime resident of Hale Center, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Hale Center Church of Christ with Walter W. "Speck" Cox officiating and Logan Rogers and Mason Rogers assisting. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center. The family will have visitation at Abell Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday evening. Tommie was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Floyd County, Texas. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Lubbock County, Texas. He married Francis Louise Biffle on April 6, 1945, in Lubbock, Texas. They moved to Hale Center in 1953 and began their farming operation. Louise preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2005. Tommie remained in Hale Center until his death Sept. 3, 2010. He was a faithful member of Hale Center Church of Christ and served for many years as a deacon. He is survived by his son, Steve Rogers and wife Judy of Amarillo; two grandsons, Logan Rogers and wife Lesli and their son Knox, of Nashville, Tenn., and Mason Rogers and wife Kellie and their three children, Charlotte, Oscar and June of Amarillo; a brother, Walt Rogers and wife, Pat of Murphreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Nelda Sneed and husband Ernest of Highland Haven, Texas; a sister-in-law, Rosene Garrison and husband Rusty of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special gratitude to Alan Keister, M.D., Lowell Chaffin, M.D., Constantine Saadeh, M.D., Lawrence Schaeffer, M.D., BSA Hospital nursing staff and BSA Hospice staff for their care for Tommie.
