Rogers, Kenneth, Mrs. (Montez Smith)

Memorial services for Montez Rogers, 77, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 30, 2011, in the Abernathy Church of Christ with Branden Denton and Ron Bontrager officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

Mrs. Rogers died November 22, 2011, in North Richland Hills, TX, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her will to live was truly amazing.

She was born August 30, 1934 in Girard, TX, to Louis C. Smith, Sr., and Leona T. Nichols Smith. Montez graduated from Wellman High School in 1953, and married Kenneth Rogers on September 26, 1953, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2008.

Mrs. Rogers was a housewife and helped her husband on the farm through her life. She was also an excellent seamstress. She graduated from Jessie Lee's Hair Design Institute in 1985 and worked for several years as a beautician. She was also a long time member of the Abernathy Church of Christ.

Montez was a proud and devoted mother of four surviving children who were her life; Dick and wife Lynett Rogers of Irving, TX, Doug and wife Donna Rogers of Lubbock, TX, Cheryl and husband Boyd Glover of Lawton, OK and Cathy Rogers of North Richland Hills, TX, 5 grandchildren, Dustin, Ashleigh, Martin, Cody and Amy and 6 great grandchildren, Taylor, Zachary, Colby, Ava, Keithen and Abel. She is also survived by two sisters, Laura Akin of Lubbock, TX and Mae Meador of Lolita, TX and two brothers, Merle Smith of Sweetwater, TX and Granville Smith of Portland, OR and long-time family friend, Greg Nichols of Lubbock, whom she loved like a son. Montez also cherished many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Louis, Jr, Jerry, Bill, Allen and twin brother Martell; and two sisters, Mozell Hairgrove and Barbara Locke.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society or the charity of their choice.
