Obituary
Bertha Lopez Rogers, 69, of Plainview went to her eternal rest on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Genesis Baptist Church with Pastor Carlos Hinojos officiating and the Rev. Lupe Rando of New Life Baptist Church of Vernon assisting. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the funeral home. Mrs. Rogers was born March 20, 1941, to Arnulfo M. and Susana Reyna Lopez. She graduated from Plainview High School and attended Valley Baptist Academy in Harlingen and Wayland Baptist University. She married Johnny Rogers in June 1966. He preceded her in death in September 2005. She was employed by Plainview ISD for 30 years. She also taught English to adults with the adult education program under Region 17 of Lubbock for more than 25 years. She loved working with and helping people. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Genesis Baptist Church in Plainview. She served as pianist for Genesis Baptist Church, the Millennium Singers, the Staked Plains and Caprock Associations, as well as for the Women's Missionary Union, Primera Iglesia Bautista, Alfa Y Omega of Plainview, Templo Salem of Lockney and Valley Baptist Church. Mrs. Rogers also was a member of RSVP. Music was her passion and she readily provided music for special church services and occasions of her many friends. Mrs. Rogers had a beautiful voice and loved singing with the family trio. She was a faithful servant in her music ministry and services to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Rogers' absence has left a tender emptiness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. Special appreciation to VistaCare Hospice, Templo Salem of Lockney and Genesis Baptist Church of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Arnulfo M. and Susana Lopez; husband, Johnny Rogers; and sister, Anita Lopez Carter. Survivors include two sons, Jaime Rogers and John Michael Rogers, both of Plain?view; three grandchildren, John Michael Rogers Jr., Genesis Marie Rogers and Jonathan Paul Rogers, all of Plainview; one brother, Arnold Lopez of Amarillo; seven sisters, Ruth Mitchell of Bertram, Rebecca Mendoza of Waco, Noemi Cavazos of Lockney, Rachel Camargo of Plainview, Esther Arredondo of Monroe, La., Ofelia Lopez of Plainview and Elizabeth Richardson of Kress.
