Funeral services for Sidney Rodgers, 93, of Plainview will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Rodgers died Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Plainview. He was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Plainview, Texas, to Virgil and Johnnie Young Rodgers. He married Oneta Jo Henderson on Jan. 12, 1947, in Lone Star. He was a master sergeant in the Army and served in the Pacific during WWII. He attended the Honor Flight last year. He owned Rodgers Well Service and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Oneta Jo Rodgers of Plainview; two sons, Steve Rodgers and wife Jancy of Petersburg, Richard Rodgers and wife Patty of Plainview; two daughters, Vicki Rodgers Pitts and husband Don of Luray, Va., and Amy Rodgers DeLavan and husband Tom of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Pitts , Brannon Rodgers, Josh Rodgers, Kirk Rodgers, Justin Rodgers, Jon Rodgers and Bailey DeLavan; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Rodgers of Kenoza Lake, N.Y.; and one sister, Vivian Rodgers Smith of Santa Fe, N.M. He is preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, V.R. Rodgers and Wilburn Rodgers; and two sisters, Geraldine Rodgers Mote and Wanda Rodgers Carter.
