Obituary

Funeral Saturday, For Mrs. Rodgers, At Lindsay Chapel

Funeral Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, afternoon at the Lindsay Funeral Chapel for Mrs. J.R. Rodgers, 91, who died Friday at 9:30 at the home of her son, H. H. Rodgers, 821 Cedar Street. She had been a resident of Plainview for the past four years, coming here from San Antonio.

Mrs. Rodgers was born in Richmond, Virginia February 19, 1837. She later moved to Adair County, Kentucky where she was married. In 1869, she moved to Texas and settled at Bastrop. Her husband died and was buried at Bastrop, thirty-three years ago.

Mrs. Rodgers joined the Methodist Church at the age of 11 and been an active church worker for many years. At the funeral services Saturday, her favorite hymns, "Rock of Ages", "Happy Day", and "Sweet By And By", were sung. Songs that she had sung for more than eighty years.

In addition to H.H. Rodgers, her son, Mrs. Rodgers is survived by two grandchildren who live in Plainview, V.R. and R.A. Rodgers. Interment was made in the Plainview Cemetary.
