Obituary

Charley A. Rodgers, 74, of Plainview, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, in St. Paul University Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, in Garland Street Church of Christ with Ben Mereness of the Georgetown Church of Christ officiating, assisted by Russell Harris, minister of Garland Street Church of Christ. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Rodgers was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Ryan, Okla., to Jesse Leon and Clara Caroline Rodgers. He married Ruby Long on Aug. 25, 1958, in Wichita, Kan. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for 40 years and served on the State Conservation Board for 10 years. He was a loving and providing father of two, Dr. Mark A. Rodgers and Marsha R. Mickler, and a loving grandfather of six. Charley was a tenderhearted soul who had a passion for friends and family. He enjoyed all Texas Tech athletics as well as bridge with his wife and friends. He never lacked a smile or a kind word. Charley's life was an inspiration to all who knew him and his presence will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Mark A. and Stacey Rodgers of Grapevine; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha R. and Jamie Mickler of Keller; a brother, John Rodgers of Chickasha, Okla.; two sisters, Helen Voss of Chickasha, Okla., and Edna McCumber of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren, Adam, Andrew and Alex Rodgers and Meredith, Jayma and Lawson Mickler; and several nieces and nephews.
