HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Gertrude "Trudy" Roddy, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hale Center First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Bushart of St. Luke?s Methodist Church in Odessa. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Roddy died Monday evening, Dec. 24, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 5, 1921, in Galveston, the daughter of the late James Carey and Claytie Lee Craig Crouch. The family moved to Dallas in 1925 and she graduated from North Dallas High School in 1943 and received a bachelor?s degree in elementary education from Texas Tech University. On June 25, 1943, she married Wesley M. Roddy and they farmed in Lubbock County and later bought a farm near Hale Center. In 1950, they purchased a ranch in Colorado where they lived for three years. They returned to Hale Center where he farmed and she taught elementary school. In 1970, they moved to the Outback in Western Australia where they lived until returning to Hale Center in 1975. She returned to teaching and retired after 28 years in the profession. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Lynn Brown of Houston, Peggy Morris of New Braunfels and Sue Ferguson of Odessa; two sisters, Caren Trabue of Kansas City, Mo., and Betty Carter of Dallas; and seven grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Hale Center First United Methodist Church or to the Hale Center Public Library.
