Obituary

Byron Laney Robertson, 49, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview. The services will be presided over by Steve Stokes and Dr. Steve Turner. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Pallbearers will be Kevin Belt, Rob Lindsey, Rod Ramsower, Clint Robinson, Kevin Thomas and John D. Walker. Byron was born in Plainview, Texas, on Jan. 2, 1959, and remained an active community member there throughout his life. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1977. He received his bachelor of science degree in agribusiness from Abilene Christian University in 1981. He worked for Production Credit Association as a loan officer for nine years and spent the last 14 years farming in Hale and Swisher counties. Byron was an active member of the ministry at Garland Street Church of Christ and was particularly interested in mission work in Latin America. He had a group of very close friends with whom he enjoyed going on snow skiing and fishing trips or just talking about farming. He also had a keen grasp of mechanical things and an inventive mind which he often used to devise improvements to farm equipment or any other machine that caught his eye. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle. His loyal friendship, genuine smile, kind heart and easy laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Byron is survived by his parents, Fred and Clara Robertson of Plainview; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Jerry Devine of Lubbock; and a nephew, Kevin Robertson Devine of Lubbock.
