Obituary

Barbara Dean Roberts, 71, of Plainview passed away Monday, Feb, 2, 2009. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Parkview Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe P. Weldon officiating and the Rev. Steve Martin assisting. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Roberts was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Oklahoma City to Clarence Leon and Kathryn Eloise Freeman. Barbara met and fell in love with Kent Roberts during her high school years at Hobbs, N.M. She and her family moved to Lovington, N.M., and they were married June 5, 1955, at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovington. Barbara's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and her flower beds. Her passion was to read and tell her grandchildren and all little children the story of Jesus. She taught pre-school and Head Start programs for the Plainview public schools and later worked with private day care children. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Kent Roberts of Plainview; one daughter, Kathryn Marshal and husband, Mark, of Kingsland; two sons, Kent Roberts Jr. of Lubbock and Kerry D. Roberts of San Antonio; her father, Clarence Leon Freeman of Midland; two sisters, Beverly Braden and husband, Gary, of Oklahoma City and Nancy Martin and husband, Buddy, of Midland; six grandchildren, Matthew Marshall and wife, Dawn, of Kingsland, Melanie and husband, Tyron Lee, of Farmersville, Rachel and husband, Wade Prutzman, of Hale Center, Haley and husband, Eric Buske, of Lubbock, Rebecca and husband, Brandon Marcy, of Lubbock and Kellan Roberts and wife, Allison, of Memphis; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eloise Freeman; and daughter, Cynthia Rhea Roberts Horne. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Feb. 4, 2009, at the funeral home.
