Obituary

Graveside services for Orene Geneva Bonds Roberts, 93, of Plainview, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Plainview Memorial Park with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial arrangements are by Bartley Funeral Home. Mrs. Roberts died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in Prairie House Living Center in Plainview. She was born Aug. 4, 1911, in Duke, Jackson County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of John and Vergie Calcote Bonds. She started school in Olustee, Okla. With her family, she moved to Hedley, Texas, where she graduated from high school. After her father's death, the family moved to Quanah. She married Jesse Elvis Roberts on Nov. 24, 1928, in Quanah. He died Sept. 30, 1991, in Plainview where the couple moved in 1938. She lived in Plainview until her death. She was a homemaker and enjoyed family history, collecting antiques, travel and her family. Her husband, two sisters, Edith Woodward and Rosezell Sams and a brother, Carl Bonds, are deceased. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview, Texas, Mary McCoy Baines Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Hale County Historical Commission, Colonial Dames XVII Century, The Jamestown Society, Daughters of American Colonists, Descendents of Early Quakers, National Society of Magna Charta, National Society of Daughters of the Pilgrims, Daughters of Colonial Wars and United Daughters of the Confederacy. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, J.B. and Ramona Roberts of Plainview, Texas; three grandchildren, Randall Curry Roberts and his wife, Ruthie, Sarah Faye Roberts and Drury Bonds Roberts, all of Plainview; six great-grandchildren, Thomas Curry Roberts of Lubbock, Texas, Jessica Ann Roberts of Austin, Texas, Rachel Victoria Roberts of Plainview, Texas, John Garrett Estes, who is stationed at Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Sicily, Italy, Erica Faye Estes Pigg and her husband, Jarret, and Joanna Brooke Estes, both of Turkey, Texas; three great-great-grandchildren, Madison Faye Pigg and Chance Clinton Pigg, both of Turkey, Texas, and Sky Meredith Roberts of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Muriel McCauley of Prattville, Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Delpha Bonds of Plainview, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry May, Vernon Norris, Dwight Jarry, Mike Wiley, James Race and David De Busk, all members of the J.B. Roberts Sunday school class. The family will be at Bartley Funeral Home from 5-6:30 p.m. today for visitation. The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
