Obituary
Memorial services for C.A. "Charlie" Richmond, 89, brother-in-law of Charlotte Thurman and uncle of Carla Edwards and Don Thurman, all of Plainview, will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in Church on the Rock. He died Oct. 6 in Gig Harbor. Mr. Richmond was born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y., in 1925 where he grew up the youngest of five siblings. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, and after his discharge he rode his motorcycle across the U.S., settling in Canyon, where he attended and graduated from West Texas State College. There he met Marguerite Wimp, and they married in St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Plainview in 1952. After both graduated from West Texas, they moved to Alaska in 1954 where they both taught school with the Alaska Native Service, later named Bureau of Indian Affairs. They taught in many remote villages, and he served as the BIA area director of Alaska until 1971 when they moved to Muscogee, Okla., where they lived for one year until moving to Albuquerque, N.M. They retired to Port Townsend, Wash., in 1977 and moved to Gig Harbor in 2007. He loved to hunt, fish, boat and hike and was a quick wit with a wonderful memory, entertaining all who knew him. They were frequent visitors to Plainview where he loved to go to the Spudnut Shop. Other survivors include his wife Marguerite; his children, Shane, Scott and wife Kathy, Ruth and husband Richard Wheeler, Steven and wife Olivia, and Marguerite Ann; six grandchildren; a sister Clara Puglisi and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
