Obituary

HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Margaret Ruth Richardson, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Halfway with the Rev. Gordon Benson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Richardson died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002 in Lubbock. She was born on May 1, 1919 in Lamesa. She worked as a riveter on military aircraft during World War II in San Diego, Calif., and in Lubbock. She moved to Akin in 1946 from California and then to Hale Center in 1947. She was employed at the Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center and earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse certification in 1968. She worked for Dr. Nguyen The and later became librarian at the Hale Center Library. After retiring she became a volunteer for hospice. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Halfway and was a charter member of the Mayfield Baptist Church. On Oct. 26, 1940, she married S. C. Richardson in Big Spring. Survivors include her husband; one son, Sammy Joe Richardson of Lubbock; one daughter, Kathy Ann Richardson of Center Point; a brother, Joe Shackelford of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Page of Palm Springs, Calif., and Elsie Kilgore of Washington. A son, Danny Harold Richardson, died in 1950. Two sisters, Edna Merriman and Dorothy Jean Shackelford, and two brothers, Earl Shackelford and Melvin Shackelford, also are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the Buckners Baptist Children's Home, 2101 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.
