Obituary
Juanita Brittain Reese left this earth to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Reese was born Nov. 25, 1915, one mile south of the Red River near Childress, Texas, to Lewis and Myrtle Cox Brittain. Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Cox, moved to the East Mound Community in Hale County in 1904. Juanita's parents moved their family to the Prairieview community in 1921. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1932 and attended Wayland Baptist College and Texas Tech. In 1935, she began her teaching career, teaching in the Prairieview and Liberty communities in Hale County. On July 1, 1939, Juanita married William L. Reese. He died in 1982. When War World II began, they moved to San Diego, Calif. and began work for Consolidated Aircraft Corporation, returning to Plainview at the conclusion of the war. Mrs. Reese was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview, Texas. She was also a charter member of Reaper's Bible Study Class, The Doll Club, TFWC Travel Study Club, Texas Federation of Women's Clubs and Mary McCoy Baines Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Reese is survived by a son, Charles Reese and his wife Janice and a granddaughter, Jennifer Reese, all of Mobile, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Viola McSwain of Plainview; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Coates, interim minister of education of First Baptist Church of Plainview, officiating. Honorary pallbearers include Ron Gammage, Mike Hutcherson, Ted Sanders, Bennett Reese, Cary Eaves, Andres Garcia and Frank Aguillera.
