Obituary

Naomi "Ruth" Houston-Reed, 96, of Plainview, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, in Plainview. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at 9th St. and Columbia Church of Christ in Plainview with Jim Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Ruth was born on Nov. 26, 1918, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Thomas Wesley Houston and Anna Bell (Hughes) Houston. She married Junior "June" Leamon Reed on Sept. 4, 1939, in Clovis, New Mexico, and they moved to Plainview in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1963. Over the years she cooked on harvest, worked at Cloverlake Dairy, taught knitting and crochet at Sears, and also put herself through business school. Ruth was a devoted member of 9th and Columbia Church of Christ for 69 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Suanna Bagwell and Thomas Reed and his wife Mary Alice; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
