Obituary

Melvin Gerald Reeb, 86, of Olton died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, in Olton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Olton with Mr. Donnie Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today, Jan. 5, 2011. Melvin was born July 18, 1924, in Spur, Texas, to Tom and Vella Rape. He attended Spur schools and Wayland Baptist University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On March 14, 1952, in Clovis, N.M., he married Lillian Brown. He was a manager with Southwestern Public Service and moved to Olton from Abernathy in 1968. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Olton Masonic Lodge #1247. Olton's Man of the Year in 1974, he also was a member of the Olton Lions Club. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and especially loved playing golf. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lillian, in 1999, and a sister, Lois Baker. Survivors include two daughters, Marion Phillips and her husband, Dwain, of Alamorgordo, N.M., and Susan Venable and her husband, Roy, of Plainview; one brother, Nelson Rape of Afton, Texas; and one sister, Doris Harris of Quitman, Texas. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Sheila Jernigan and her husband, John, Gerald Durham, Leslie LaDuke, Trina Phillips and Taylor Phillips and his wife, Tanya. He also had four great-grandchildren, Rezin and Zaden LaDuke and Faith and Marlee Jernigan. Memorials may be made to Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, TX 79064.
