Ray, Leslie L.

Funeral services for Leslie L. Ray, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in United Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Walker of Dallas, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Ray died at 3:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Covenant Hospital.

He received the first internal defibrillator in Plainview after a heart attack in July.

He was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Waco, the son of the late Sherman and Naomi Ray. He grew up in Marlin where he attended schools. He moved to Plainview in 1945 and worked on the W.T. Bowser farm. In 1952, he went to work for Cooper Pontiac & Cadillac and then worked for Hale County State Bank and the Hilton Hotel for several years. He worked at Plainview ISD as a custodian until retiring in 1995.

He was a deacon at United Baptist Church and a member of Knight of Pythias and was a 32nd degree Mason. After retirement, he worked as a gardener and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kurtis Ray of Dallas, Mack Ray of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Allen Ray of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Leslie Compton and Janice Hall, both of Plainview, Sue Turner of Phoenix, and Ora Harris of Odessa; one sister, Addie Driver of Plainview; a brother, Robert Ray of Phoenix; 31 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
