Obituary

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Wayne Rankin, 86, of Plainview. Ishmael Wayne Rankin passed away May 1, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor and Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. A family burial will be at 11 a.m. in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Wayne was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Sidney, Texas, to Gracie Thelma Wagnon and Ira Bell Rankin. He grew up in Bradshaw, Texas, but moved to Plainview in 1943. He graduated from Plainview High School and was immediately drafted into the Army during World War II. After serving in Italy as an MP for the army, he attended and graduated from West Texas State College and returned to Plainview to farm in the Bellview community. He subsequently met and married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Webb, on Jan. 7, 1955. He retired from farming in 1980, and he and his wife opened and operated Carolyn's Fashions until 1996. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on the West Texas State College Exes Student Association board, as well as the United Farm Industries Co-op board of directors and the Lider Gin board of directors. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy; his son Mike Rankin and his wife Sheila of Ruidoso, N.M.; his son Larry Rankin and his wife Lori of Plainview; six grandsons, Logan Rankin of Fort Worth, Landon Rankin and his wife Ashley of Jacksonville, N.C., Leighton Rankin and his wife Caitlyn of Plainview, Chase Rankin of Nevada and Brandon and Christopher Rankin of Ruidoso, N.M.; and three great-grandchildren, Chase, Ryland and Jax of Jacksonville, N.C. Other survivors include four sisters, JoAnn Dean of Orange Park, Fla., Nelda Criswell and her husband T.K. of Lubbock, Texas, Carolyn Blackerby and her husband Jim of Hunt, Texas, and Mary Kay Bennett and her husband Randy of Plainview.
