Obituary

Memorial graveside services for Lois Nivens Purvis, 75, of Santa Teresa, N.M., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hale Center Cemetery with Dr. Gene Meacham, director of the Caprock-Plains Baptist Area, officiating. Arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Purvis died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso. She was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Sudan. She was a journalist and had worked for Artesia Daily Press, Roswell Daily Record and the El Paso Times. She had received several journalism awards from the New Mexico Press Association. She married James Purvis on July 3, 1953, in Roswell, N.M. He died Sept. 11, 2004. Survivors include two sons, John Easley Purvis of El Paso and James Daniel Jones-Purvis of Frisco, Texas; one grandson, Ryan Shaun Purvis; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Marie Purvis. A daughter, Rebecca JoAnn Purvis, died Feb. 3, 2003.
