Graveside services for Joe Prater, 89, of Lubbock, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church in Abilene, officiating.

Burial was by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Prater died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his residence.

He was born July 13, 1909, in Nevada, Texas, grew up in Farmersville and attended Farmersville schools. After his marriage to Ruth Denison on July 22, 1933, in Marietta, Okla., he farmed in Plano. He moved to Spade in 1942 and to Halfway in 1962, retiring in 1969. He moved to Plainview in 1972 and to Lubbock in 1989.

He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Doris Marie Palmer of Sun City, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Roger McCurry of Sherman and Baynetta Jordan of Lubbock; four great-grandchildren, Jarrod McCurry of Sherman and Sarah Jordan, Ben Jordan and Maggie Jordan, all of Lubbock; one brother and two sisters.
