Powell, Charles C., Sr.

Funeral services for Charles C. Powell Sr., 82, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with Kenneth Tolson, associate pastor of Good Samaritan Pentecostal Church of God, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 11:15 a.m. in Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

He was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Hale Center. He had lived in Plainview most of his life and had farmed near Kress.

He worked for Wilson & Son Lumber Co. for several years and also did masonry work.

He played gosepel and country music and had played guitar in a band for Jimmy Dean.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On Oct. 6, 1996, he married Mary E. Morgan.

Survivors include his wife of Longview; five daughters, Tommye Mack Powell, Charla G. Pope and Carla L. Moore, all of Denison, MaeNell Bartman of California and Delores Powell of Plainview; one son, Charles C. Powell Jr., of Grand Prairie; four stepdaughters, Floye Gilbow of Hawaii, Patsy Morgan of Big Sandy, Charlene Fortenberry of Gladewater and Kathy Schreckengost of Gladewater; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
