Obituary

Delbert E. "Joe" Porter, 78, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Crosbyton Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg with Owen Carr officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Porter was born June 20, 1927, in Ralls to Hilton and Nettie Mae Porter. He married Leota Mosley on March 2, 1963. She passed away Dec. 21, 1992. He grew up in Ralls and graduated from Ralls High School. He moved to Petersburg in 1947. Mr. Porter and his father operated an implement business in Petersburg for several years. He served in the U.S. Army in the medical corps until 1953. He then served in the Reserves for four years. He was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Taylor of Petersburg; one brother, H.L. Porter of Petersburg; one sister, Mauna Nell Moore of Lorenzo: two grandchildren, Julie Daniel of Petersburg and Tamra Taylor of Amarillo; and one great-grandchild, Coda Daniel of Petersburg. The family suggests memorials to Petersburg Cemetery in care of Petersburg City Hall.
