Obituary

Services for Zephra Pope, 95, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, Texas.

Mrs. Pope died at Abernathy's Golden Estates, Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2007.

She was born Jan. 4, 1912 in Peacock, Texas to J. O. and Rosa Estella (Bearden) Robertson. She moved to the Plains of Texas in 1921 from Red Springs, Texas. She married James Wesley Pope, SR on Dec. 24, 1936 in Abernathy, Texas, and he preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Pope in 1941, four sisters and a brother.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Pope and his wife Peggy of Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas and Robert Pope and his wife Gwyn of Abernathy, Texas; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Robertson of Gainesville, Fla. and Hubert Robertson of Mt. Vernon, Texas; three sisters, Elouise Kinast of Abernathy, Texas, Dee Carr of Stallings, NC and Melva Downs of Pampa, Texas.
