ABERNATHY ? Funeral services for Very Hacker Pope, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Lowrie, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mrs. Pope died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Lubbock.

She was born Feb. 23, 1908, near Hart to the pioneer family of Jerry and Cora Hacker. The Hacker family later moved to Plainview High School and attended Wayland Baptist College.

She married J.O. ?Bill? Pope on Dec. 22, 1928.

The Popes moved to Lubbock in the early 1930s.

She was very active in First Baptist Church of Lubbock, serving as superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department for many years.

She was a member of the 1939 Study Club.

In the 1950s, she and her husband established an automobile parts business in Earth. In 1956, they moved to Abernathy to Establish Pope?s Parts Place.

Her husband died March 27, 1990.

Survivors include her children, Anita Jean Carlson of Portland, Ore., and James Pope and his wife, Wilma, of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Jana Pope and her husband, Eddy Hogge, of Carrollton and Dale Bea of Lubbock; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin Hogge and Jamie Hogge of Carrollton and Aidan Bea of Lubbock.

A grandson, Mark Pope, Died March 19, 1985.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the services.
