Obituary
Raymond Pool, 90, went to his Lord and Savior at 3:02 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at his residence in Plainview. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Raymond was born Oct. 5, 1915, west of Sherman in Grayson County to Wallace and Ethel Pool. His family moved to the community of Whitfield (Claytonville), east of Kress, in 1929 when he was 14 and he farmed with his father. When he was 16 he had met some young people at Price School in the Whitfield Community and gave his life to Christ. He married Juanita Alexander on Aug. 30, 1939, in Corsicana and started farming for himself in the Whitfield community. Juanita and Raymond where married 47 years. Juanita died of cancer in March 1986. He is survived by two wonderful daughters, Anita McPherson (children are Cindy McPherson of Arlington and James McPherson and wife Lisa and their two children, Amalia and Griffin of Frisco) and Donna Gilbreath (children are Terry Gilbreath and wife Melody and their two daughters, Moriah and Manessah, Todd Gilbreath and wife Debra and their two children, Brooklyn and Braxton), all of Plainview, and many nieces and nephews. On Feb. 3, 1987, Raymond married Lois Bishop and now he has two stepsons, Bob Bishop of Florida and Wayne Bishop and wife Teresa of Georgia. Lois died in 2003. His brothers and sisters are: Chester Pool and wife Lucille (both deceased), Nora Mae Lovvorn and husband Russell (both deceased), Elmer Pool and wife Rosy Lee (both deceased), Dorothy Hollars and husband Bill of Plainview and Doyce Pool and wife Margie of Round Rock. Raymond farmed all his life except during 1952-53 when he worked for the Coca-Cola Company. He retired from farming in 1985. Since retirement he enjoyed visiting the homebound and sick through his church, College Heights Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon for 47 years and a Sunday school director for 33 years. The family suggests memorials to College Heights Baptist Church, 802 Quincy, Plainview, TX 79072. A visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
