Obituary

Rosary for Juan T. Ponce, 85, of Sumter, S.C. and formerly of Abernathy, Texas will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Father Jacob Puthuparambil officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, in the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow services in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas.

Mr. Ponce died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in Sumter, S.C.

He was born January 20, 1926 to Uvaldo and Marselina (Torres) Ponce. He married Victoria P. Ponce on April 28, 1946 in Edinburg, Texas. He had been a longtime resident of Abernathy before moving.

He was preceded in death by his wife Victoria; a son, Roy Ponce, Sr.; and a daughter, Estela Ponce.

He is survived by two sons, Johnny and Ruben Ponce, both of Abernathy, Texas; a daughter, Sylvia Trapp of Sumter, S.C.; one brother, Eubaldo Ponce of Frisco, Texas; two sisters, Severa Galicia of Edinburg, Texas and Maria Gomez of Poniac, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family suggest memorials be made to St. Isidore Catholic Church.
