Obituary

Graveside services for Wanda Hewett Poage, 86, of Lubbock, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by White Funeral Home of Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Second Baptist Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Mike Waller and the Rev. Elizabeth Abraham, chaplain of Hospice of Lubbock, officiating. Mrs. Poage died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001. She was born Aug. 25, 1915, in Hale Center, the daughter of the late Frank Edsill and Rubye Vale Bailey Hewett. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1934. She moved from Cotton Center to Tulia, then to Mesa, Ariz., and then to Lubbock. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church, home demonstration clubs in Hale and Swisher counties and the Unity
Study Club in Tulia. She had been a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and a Royal Assembly leader. She was first president of the Cotton Center Parent-Teacher Association. On Nov. 24, 1934, she married Herman Clifton Poage. He died Nov. 25, 1979. Survivors include a son, G. "Buz" Poage of Lubbock; a daughter, Dolores Dee Stewart of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A son, H.C. Poage Jr., is deceased. The family suggests memorials to the building fund at Second Baptist Church in Lubbock or to a favorite charity. Family members will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lubbock.
