Obituary

Vernon Pierce, 85, of Plainview, passed away on Nov. 2, 2013, in Plainview. Graveside funeral services will be held at at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Roger Foote officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon at Kornerstone from 3 to 5 p.m.

Vernon was born on June 19, 1928, in Aspermont. He grew up in Dublin and attended schools there. His family moved around a lot while he was growing up. His father would load his family up in a covered wagon and their belongings and move to their next destination. He moved to Plainview in 1947 and worked for the railroad. He then roughnecked for awhile and then ran Eastside Grocery for several years. He then worked for the City of Plainview Water Department for 40 plus years before retiring as a superintendent. He was a member of the College Heights Baptist Church and served as a school crossing guard at Ash for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Pierce; sister, Dorothy Blackwell; grandson, Kelly Pierce; and two great-granddaughters, Autumn and Brooke Pierce.

Vernon married Bobbie Cross Campbell on July 23, 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Pierce of Plainview; one daughter, Sharon Fuller and husband Wayne of Plainview; four sons, Darryel Pierce of Kress, Randy Campbell of Edmonson, Scott Campbell of Plainview, Robert Campbell of Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Stephen Pierce, Branden Pierce and wife Brandy, Denice Lovelace and husband Donnie, Chris Fuller, Randall Campbell and wife Tami, Richard Campbell and wife Jennifer, Denise Woods and husband Zant, Michael Campbell and wife Michelle, and Terrell Campbell; 10 great-grandchildren and thee great-great-grandchildren.
