Obituary

Funeral Mass for Simon B. Pichardo Sr., 76, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerard Kenney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Lemons Memorial Chapel. Mr. Pichardo died at 9:42 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Pearsall. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the military police, receiving the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and Army of Occupation Medal. After his discharge, he farmed in the Abernathy area for several years. He moved to Plainview in 1977 and worked as a custodian for Hillcrest Elementary School for 15 years, retiring in 1997. He was a Catholic. On Sept. 7, 1951, he married Francisca Garcia in Moorehead, Minn. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Silvia P. Perez of Vista, Calif., and Ramona White of Plainview; three sons, Juan Pichardo of Lockney and Simon Pichardo Jr., and Francisco Pichardo, both of Plainview; a brother, Tomas Pichardo of Abilene; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
