Obituary

Funeral service for Joanna Phillips, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mrs. Phillips died Sunday, July 24, 2004, at her home. She was born March 23, 1933, to Robert Evert and Doris Lucille Wiley Myers in Lubbock County and graduated from New Deal High School. She married Virgil C. Phillips on Sept. 2, 1970, in Casper, Wyo. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Belynda Carr of Idalou, Kim McCarrell of Amarillo, Janice Wade of Richmond and Lynn Matlock of Tulia; one brother, Robert Evert Myers Jr., of Lubbock; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Jim Myers, died in April 1985; a sister, Lucille Merle Riggs, died in 2001; and her parents are deceased. Memorial contributions may be sent to Abernathy Cemetery, P.O.
