Obituary
Leon Phillips, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, in Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Les Reed officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Leon was born on Feb. 27, 1938, in Shamrock, Texas, to James Herman and Eunice Phillips. He married Sally Hanners on June 16, 1962, in Plainview. Leon moved to Plainview in 1950 and worked at several service stations. He managed Strain & Dunaway Tire Company from 1970 to 1990 and Neil Burnett Oil Company from 1990 until his retirement in 2000. Leon was a crossing guard for 14 years, and he and Sally coached YMCA girls basketball and softball for numerous years. Leon was a Dallas Cowboys fan and an avid Texas Rangers fan. Leon is survived by his wife Sally Phillips of Plainview; brother-in-law Bobby Reed; sister-in-law Mary Phillips; nephews, Kent Phillips, Chris Phillips, Les Reed, Keith Reed and Tony Dalton; niece Tammy Hill; and numerous other family members and friends. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association .
