Marie Burge, 82, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at Plainview First Assembly with Pastor Nelson Gonzalez officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Kornerstone. Marie was born on Jan. 4, 1934, in Plainview, Texas, to William and Mattie Rainer. She grew up and attended schools in Plainview. She married Gabe Burge on May 22, 1953, in Clovis, N.M. One of her greatest accomplishments was graduating from nursing school in 1972 that led to a career of over 30 years in Plainview hospitals. Marie was active in the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and American Legion, lifetime member of the National Women's Bowling Association and bowler for many years at the Plainview Bowling Center. She was a Boy Scout leader for her eldest son for many years. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi and Living Water Emmaus Community. She enjoyed dancing and loved to sing. She was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church where she, her brothers and sisters got to know our savior. She was even caught dancing in the sanctuary with her sister Frances with Jimmy Dean on the piano playing the Boogy Woogy. Marie enjoyed having family and friends around where there was always a card, domino or dice game going on. Marie loved to travel with Ruidoso being a favorite with great memories made with her sisters. She loved to play the slot machines that proved to be fruitful. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gabe Burge; son, Randy Paul Burge; and four brothers and three sisters. Marie is survived by her children, Dale Burge and wife Donna of Clyde, Tim Burge and wife Stacey of Canyon, Kayla Edwards of Plainview; seven grandchildren, Gabe Burge, Bradley Burge, Breanna Marler, Travis Burge, Rowdee Edwards, Joni Smith, Shonda Smith; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
