Obituary

ABERNATHY - Funeral services for Hugh L. Pettit, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Teeters and the Rev. John Lowrie officiating. Masonic graveside services will be in Abernathy Cemetery. Burial arrangements are by Abell Funeral home. Mr. Pettit died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his residence. He was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Gustine and moved to Abernathy with his parents in 1915. He had served on the Abernathy School Board and was a member of Abernathy First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. On Nov. 28, 1940, he married Cecile Pharr in Abernathy. She died Dec. 28, 1996. Survivors include a son, Bob Pettit of Corrinth; a daughter, Melinda Wheatley of Lubbock; a brother, Vernon Pettit of Gainesville; a sister, Tinie Williamson of Graham; two granddaughters; and three step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Golden Estates, One Golden Court, Abernathy at 10 a.m. Saturday.
