Death in Sleep Comes Today To Mrs. Peterson
Mrs. Arilla Peterson, 70, beloved music and voice teacher here for more than a quarter of a century, died at her home at 412 West Eighth Street early this morning.
Her body was found in bed. Miss Mildred Klein, a niece, went to awaken Mrs. Peterson at 7 o'clock. Miss Klein summoned a physician who said she had died of natural causes possibly six hours previously
Miss Klein and Mrs. Peterson had planned to go to Lubbock this morning to have Thanksgiving dinner in the home of Mrs. Peterson's brother, D. B. Hiatt and family.
Mrs. Peterson came to Plainview in 1920 from Amarillo where she had lived 14 years. She engaged in teaching piano and voice and took a very active part in musical organizations here.
She was a leader in organization of the Musical Arts Club and served as its president for eight years. She served as president of the Music Teachers Association for several years and for a number of years shouldered the main responsibility in presenting the organization's annual Christmas Gooodwill music program. She directed the choir at the Methodist church for ten years and had charge of numerous civic choral clubs dur- Plainview.
Funeral services are pending arrival of a sister, Mrs. L. C. Webb, Newton, Kan. Other survivors are a brother, A. L. Hiatt, San Francisco, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. H. E. Pratt, Corvallis, Ore. Miss Klein has made her home with Mrs. Peterson practically all her life.
The body is to remain at the Lemons Funeral Home until time for services. Burial will be here.
