Obituary

Rufino "Ruff" Pequeno, 84, of Plainview, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Sunday, July 28, 2013. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at La Primera Iglesia Bautista of Plainview with the Rev. Raymond Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow the service in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. There will be a visitation and praise service from 6-8 p.m. today, July 31, 2013, at the funeral home. Public viewing will be all day today as well. Rufino Rodriguez Pequeno was born on July 10, 1929, in Woodsboro, Texas, to Enrique and Thomasa (Rodriguez) Pequeno. Rufino and Bertha Ariaz were married on January 19, 1947, and had four children together. Rufino was the tire manager and field service for United Farm Industries Co-op for many years. He loved gardening, fishing, watching baseball, and western movies. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Rufino was a member of La Primera Iglesia Bautista. Rufino is survived by his wife, Bertha Ariaz Pequeno of the home; his children: Rudy Ariaz Pequeno and his wife, Margaret, of Amarillo; Robert Ariaz Pequeno and his wife, Pat, of Plainview; Anna Pequeno Harper and her husband, Thomas, of Hutto, Texas; brothers: Henry Pequeno of Plainview; Enrique T. Pequeno and Eliseo Pequeno, both of Abilene; sisters: Felipa Ybarra of Plainview, and Juanita Anderson of Abilene; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Parxedis Pequeno, Ramon Pequeno, Alberto Pequeno, Emitrio Pequeno, and Pablo Pequeno; a sister, Victoria Vela; and a daughter, Erma Ariaz Pequeno. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Accolade Hospice, 5201 Indiana Ave., Suite 101S, Lubbock, TX 79413; Covenant Hospital of Plainview, 2601 Dimmitt Road, Plainview, TX 79072; or to La Primera Iglesia Bautista, 1205 Avenida Godsey, Plainview, TX 79072.
