Funeral services for Rufus James ?R.J.? Pendergrass, 71, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Mary Lou Dillon, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Pendergrass died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at his residence.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Highplant, Ky. He grew up in Kentucky and served with the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Plainview in 1949. He was a pilot and had owned and operated Hi Plains Fertilizer since 1962, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge.
On April 19, 1953, he married Anna Masterson in Carlsbad, N.M.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jana Dawn Lemons of Claude; two sons, Jimmy Dean Pendergrass of Lubbock and Glen Ray Pendergrass of Plainview; a sister, Margie Causey of Warren, Mich.; one aunt, Robbie Simpson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A son, seven brothers and two sisters are deceased.
